For those of you who didn't hear about it, the Northeast CDC gave out some really nice bonuses last year; two of their staff got 8 months' worth. Many people were angry over that, even myself, but I could care less about the money. I care more about the fact that a CDC is run on public money, but their remuneration are declared as "confidential". That's just a convenient excuse, and just plain wrong. There is no accountability, and when the people in charge says "I do not know", we know we're screwed.
Now, to cover it up, the original articles posted in The Straits Times and Channel News Asia have been removed. You can read more details on Mr Brown's blog here. I'm glad he kept PDF copies of those articles too; I think that's a great way of keeping a record of these errors on our own. After all, if we can't rely on local journalists to give us objective and unbiased reporting, we'll have to do that ourselves.
And judging by this story, the government seems more preoccupied with keeping journalists out than to keep known terrorists in. Draw your own conclusions. I know which one is more dangerous to this country.
